Oxford Geek Night 8

J-P Stacey

Oxford Geek Nights are geek meet-ups sponsored by Torchbox and Google, offering local freelancers, developers, designers, hardcore programmers, information architects and hardware hackers a chance to get together.

Geek Night

OGN8 is at the Jericho Tavern on 27 August 2008 and has ended up with a musical theme. One keynote speaker - Independent tech writer Rhodri Marsden - will warn of the end of making money from online music content, while the other - Songkick CEO and co-founder Ian Hogarth - espouses the future of the online content-to-gigs experience: both together will chart moves within the music industry from monetizing recordings to monetizing the concert experience.

We're also opening with a musical act, the geek troubadour, local singer/songwriter Ben Walker giving us a few oddball songs.

Later in the night we'll have the usual broad range of volunteer "microslot" talks, on such subjects as cloud computing, the open web, and the upcoming release of version 1.0 of the Django web framework.

Entrance is free, thanks to our sponsors, and doors open at 7.30pm.
