We work with
Asthma UK
Asthma UK are a high profile health charity providing information and support for the 5.2 million people in the UK who have asthma.
We were commissioned in 2005 to redevelop the main Asthma UK website, focusing on the needs of their key audience groups to deliver an intuitively structured site that was easy to use for first time visitors while delivering value to long term users.
Powered by RationalMedia, the site features our now standard single sign-on website account for centralised user management of contact details, mailing lists, scrapbook and discussion profile, extended to include membership applications and renewals, as well as groundbreaking integration with Asthma UK’s Raiser’s Edge fundraising database using a web services API.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer
We've been working with Breakthrough Breast Cancer since 2004, when together we launched the original website in support of the Breakthrough Generations study. Since then we've redeveloped the main Breakthrough site and the Breakthrough Research Centre site, and re-launched the Generations site to reflect the ongoing nature of this groundbreaking 25 year study.
All of the sites we produce for Breakthrough are powered by RationalMedia.
Business in the Community
Leading corporate social responsibility organisation Business in the Community, who work with over 800 of the UK's top companies to improve their impact on society, are a longstanding client who've been with us... well, pretty much from the beginning.
From developing their internal Management Information Systems and complex Activity Reporting Tools to re-launching their public website twice, most recently in December 2006, our work for BITC has encompassed RationalMedia-driven web projects and robust application development.
Motor Neurone Disease Association
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association is the only national organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to the support of people with MND and those who care for them.
We've been working with the MND Association since 2005, redeveloping their main organisational website, their annual International Symposium conference microsite and, in 2008, their Dunk-It! fundraising campaign site.
The MND Association websites are powered by RationalMedia.
NDCS
Our relationship with NDCS, formerly the National Deaf Children's Society, stretches back to 2002 when we were commissioned to redevelop their main organisational website on RationalMedia and create a support forum for the parents and carers of deaf children, Parent Place.
In 2004 we developed a site for the International Deaf Children's Society (IDCS), which itself has since rebranded as Deaf Child Worldwide.
We also produced a dedicated challenge events fundraising microsite, NDCS Challenges, promoting the range of exciting UK and International fundraising activities that NDCS supporters can get involved in.
POhWER
POhWER is an independent advocacy agency that has experienced tremendous growth in the time that we've been working together.
As well as offering generic advocacy services, POhWER runs the NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) for the East of England, London and West Midlands regions, and the Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) services in 10 areas across London, East of England, West and East Midlands.
As well as redeveloping the POhWER website on RationalMedia, we also built a case management system, CLEAR, that runs remotely on advocate's laptops so they can update cases while with their clients, and synchs with the main database when they're next online.
Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health
One of the Prince's Charities, the Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health advocate an holistic approach to healthcare, whereby complementary and alternative therapies are used alongside conventional medicine.
We designed and developed the FIH website, which is powered by RationalMedia, in 2007.Rethink
Rethink is a health charity working to help everybody affected by severe mental illness recover a better quality of life.
We've been working with Rethink since 2006, redeveloping their main public website and empowering their staff with an organisational Extranet, Inthink, both of which are powered by one instance of RationalMedia.
Slivers of Time
The development of the Slivers of Time employment system is one of Torchbox's most significant technical, and user interface achievements to date.
Slivers of Time is a revolutionary new way of working and of employing people. It allows the seller (of their time) to say when they want to work and for how much money (and set mark-ups like requiring extra money to travel further to a job).
Employers choose who to book from a seller availability screen organised by price and dependability (established by how often they have worked successfully through Slivers of Time).
Slivers of Time is a Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (JavaEE) application built around an Open Source architecture.
The Age of Stupid
Picking up where Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" left off, "The Age of Stupid" is a compelling mix of documentary archive footage and chilling vision of a future, set in 2055.
In the lead role, Pete Postlethwaite looks back incredulously and marvels at how mankind knew about the effects of climate change and that urgent action was needed, and yet did nothing.
Directed by Franny Armstrong (who previously made "McLibel"), the movie will be released later in 2008 following a successful crowd-funding campaign which has enabled the filmmakers to retain complete control over what the film says and who can see it.
The Age of Stupid website is powered by Drupal.
The Carbon Account
Torchbox publicly launched The Carbon Account in March 2008 after more than a year of self-funded development.
The Carbon Account is a sophisticated personal emissions monitoring tool, designed to make it easy to log and track your carbon usage over time.
Accurately identifying your vehicle's likely energy consumption from the registration number, allowing users to input gas and electricity meter readings rather than try and work things out from their bill, and working out air travel from airport destinations are just a few of the ways we tried to make using The Carbon Account something that anyone could keep on top off with the minimum of fuss and hassle.
The Carbon Account was build with Django and was released under an open source licence in 2008.
The Health Foundation
The Health Foundation is a charitable foundation operating independently from government, political parties or other interest groups, and striving to make the quality of healthcare in the UK the best it can be.
We've been working with The Health Foundation since 2007, when we relaunched their main public website. We are delighted to be able to play a part in helping The Health Foundation communicate with their key stakeholder groups and influence healthcare decision-makers.
The Health Foundation site is powered by RationalMedia.
The King's Fund
The King's Fund is an independent charitable foundation working for better health, developing informed policy, fostering innovation, and nurturing skills and leadership.
Since 2004, our work with the King's Fund has included: redevelopment of their main organisational website, powered by RationalMedia, the design of which is regularly refreshed (most recently in 2008 as part of a re-branding exercise); a networking environment, Hubola, for leadership programme participants; and, most recently, engineering integration with their new CRM system.
World Conservation Union
Biodiversity Economics is a joint project between the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and WWF promoting economic approaches to conservation by offering environmental economists the opportunity to share documents, contacts and information about upcoming events.
The Biodiversity Economics website is powered by RationalMedia, and also features an implementation of our own open source community search, spidering and indexing engine, FathomFive.
WWF
In 2007 we were appointed by WWF to design and develop an ecological calculator in support of their One Planet Future campaign.
The WWF Footprint Calculator set new standards for speed and usability and offers carefully-weighted and, most important of all, relevant tips to help individuals modify their behaviour to reduce their contribution to climate change.
Phase II of the Footprint Calculator was launched at Grand Designs Live in July 2007, and marked the rollout of community features enabling users to form groups and offer each other advice and support.
The WWF Footprint Calculator is a Ruby on Rails application
